Biology
Biology is one of the most exciting disciplines on Planet Earth. It ranges broadly from studies of the very smallest biological molecules (e.g., in studies of human health or the origins of water on Mars) to studies of entire ecosystems (e.g., how freshwater lakes are impacted by a warming climate). The study of Biology has practical applications in agriculture, medicine, biotechnology, environmental protection, and conservation. Many study biology because they are fascinated by the interconnections among living things and the sorts of problem-solving skills that can be gained by understanding these connections.
Faculty in the Biology Department are engaged in award-winning research. By conducting cutting-edge research, we are able to bring to you, in our teaching, the newest developments in our rapidly advancing and always changing discipline. We offer a number of experiential learning opportunities through internship placements, field courses, and research theses.
