Child & Youth Care

The Child and Youth Care Diploma has been designed to meet the needs of those who wish to pursue a career as a CYC Counsellor or who are already working in the field and wish to upgrade their qualifications.

The provincially-approved curriculum has been designed to develop the aptitudes, knowledge and skills you need to specialize in supporting children and youth experiencing social, emotional, mental health and behavioural challenges. Advanced course work focuses on a range of prevention, intervention and treatment strategies and how these theoretical concepts can be applied in the field. The curriculum also includes interviewing techniques, conflict management, counseling skills and program development. In addition, students will learn advocacy skills and be introduced to legal issues involving children and youth including the child welfare system and the criminal justice system.
